BROW AND FOREHEAD LIFT

What is a Brow Lift?

Also known as a forehead lift, this procedure does a few different things. It minimizes the creases that develop across the forehead or those that occur high on the bridge of the nose; it improves what are commonly referred to as frown lines; and finally, it raises the upper lids and repositions a low or sagging brow.

The eyebrow shows anger, worry, surprise and a host of other emotions. Whilst drooping brows can give a false appearance of tiredness and worry, a brow lift repositions the brows to a more favourable position, improving a person’s overall facial appearance.
Who is a suitable candidate for brow lift surgery?

One or more of the following conditions may indicate that you are a good candidate for a brow lift:

· Sagging or low position of the eyebrows, creating a tired or sad appearance

· Deep horizontal creases across the forehead

· Frown lines, or furrows, between the eyebrows and sometimes across the top of the nose

How long does a forehead lift last?

The results of a brow lift are permanent, and changes may be subtle or dramatic depending on your appearance prior to surgery. You should expect to wait several weeks and even months to see the full effects of surgery. However, it is important to remember that no surgery can stop the effects of ageing, and it will be up to the individual patient as to how long the results will be satisfactory to them.

How is a Brow Lift procedure performed?

There are various methods of this procedure now being performed; however, the final decision on which course your surgery will take depends on many factors, including the amount of excess skin and the position of your hairline. The best solution will be agreed between the patient and surgeon. Some of the methods are detailed below: -

a. Coronal brow lift (open) involves an incision that runs just behind and more or less parallel to the hairline, from temple to temple. Any creases are smoothed and the brow is lifted. This procedure raises the hairline slightly and therefore it may not be suitable for male patients who have receding hairlines or insufficient hair to hide the scar. The main benefit of this method is that excess skin can be removed rather than tightened and many surgeons believe it gives the most dramatic and lasting results.

b. Endoscopic brow lift is for patients with reduced laxity and is a less invasive procedure. Between2-4 small incisions are made at different points within the hairline, and a tiny camera is inserted underneath the skin to guide the surgeon as the forehead is lifted without raising the hairline. The muscles that cause eyebrow depression and frown lines are then removed. For this method, skin is removed at the hairline, rather than behind it. Incisions heal almost invisibly compared to the longer scar of the Coronal brow lift. There are fewer scars, a faster recovery, and it can be performed at the earliest signs of ageing. It is ideal for patients with minimal hair who have concerns about scarring. Endoscopic brow lift can be combined with open method in some cases. The incision is carried out on the hairline.

Duration of operation: 30 to 45 minutes

Hospital stay - Generally patients can be discharged the same day as the procedure after some recovery time.

What should I expect after my surgery?

There will be some initial swelling and bruising which may be accompanied by unevenness or asymmetry. This is to be expected. Most swelling is usually seen during the first 24 to 48 hours and resolves within 2 weeks. There may be numbness to the forehead and this usually resolves within several months. Some hair loss at the scar line is also normal, however this is temporary and the hair should grow back.

How long will it be before I can get back to my normal life?

A 7-8 night stay is recommended in Turkey following brow lift surgery. You may return to work after this time. The final results of your procedure will be seen some months later.

Can a brow lift procedure be performed without scarring?

There are some methods without scars (i.e. using some types of stitch materials), but with much less effect. Scars are part of the healing process following an effective operation, however due the location of the brow lift, scars are generally easy to conceal. By following your surgeon’s guidelines, in time the scars will fade and become barely visible.

Brow Lift

A brow lift, also known as a forehead lift:

  • Reduces the wrinkle lines that develop horizontally across the forehead, as well as those that occur on the bridge of the nose, between the eyes

  • Improves frown lines, the vertical creases that develop between the eyebrows

  • Raises sagging brows that are hooding the upper eyelids

  • Places the eyebrows in an alert and youthful position

Who is a good candidate for a brow lift?

You may be a candidate for brow lift surgery if you:

  • Are physically healthy

  • Nonsmoker

  • Have a positive outlook and realistic goals

As we age, unsightly wrinkle lines may appear on the forehead. Frown lines between the brows can make us look angry or "too serious." Skin relaxation may cause the eyebrows to drop, hooding our upper eyelids and making us look tired. If you are bothered by these signs of aging in the brow region, a brow lift may be right for you.
