CHIN AUGMENTATION (GENIOPLASTY)
What is chin augmentation (Genioplasty-Mentoplasty)?
It is a procedure that corrects or reshapes a ‘weak’ chin by augmentation, by means of an implant or bone advancement to improve the shape and balance of the face. Since there are chances of unwanted complications with implants (infection, injury to the roots of the teeth, disposition etc) even after years, bone advancement method (hence your own tissue) is preferred by us.
Who is a suitable candidate for chin augmentation surgery?
Usually, candidates for chin augmentation are those who want more definition to their face and wish to bring the chin area into proportion with the rest of their features.
It is not unusual to combine this operation with rhinoplasty or other facial procedures to give extra support to the face and neck and improve the facial profile overall.
How long does chin augmentation last?
Results are permanent from this procedure, however an implant may shift over time or may need to be exchanged or replaced.
How is a chin augmentation procedure performed?
Each procedure is tailored to individual patients’ needs; however the principal part of the surgery is to expose the chin via an intraoral incision, advance it, and then fix it with surgical wires or plates). In some cases patients need more extensive surgery if the chin is severely retro-positioned.
Duration of operation: 45 mins-1 hour
Hospital stay: 0-1 night
What to expect immediately after surgery
Patients will have a dressing that will remain in place for 2-3 days to minimize the bruising and help to support the newly created shape. There may be tenderness, tightness and discomfort for the first few days and a liquid diet should be followed until the stitches are removed. Talking, eating and smiling may be difficult for the first few days. Initial bruising along with any swelling should disappear within 7-10 days after surgery.
How long will it be before I can get back to my normal life?
A 5-7 night stay is recommended in Turkey. Most people can return to work after two weeks post-operative. Due to swelling, full results may not be seen for some months following the surgery.
Can chin augmentation surgery be performed without scar?
Scars for this procedure can usually be well hidden in the natural crease under the chin (if an implant is put), or inside the mouth.

What is chin surgery?
Chin surgery, or mentoplasty, is a surgical procedure to reshape the chin either by enhancement with an implant or reduction surgery on the bone.

Plastic surgery, and other minor office procedures, can often be performed on the lower jaw line and chin area to improve proportions of the face and to help with one's confidence and self-esteem. These types of interventions are frequently suggested by board-certified plastic surgeons to improve the harmony of facial features and improve the chin/jaw/cheek/forehead balance.
Mentoplasty
Sometimes bone from the jaw itself can be moved forward in an operation called a mentoplasty or genioplasty. Alternatively, shaped silicone implants can be used to give more projection to the chin. Conversely, bone can be removed to decrease an overly projecting chin. Furthermore, modifications to the upper and/or lower jaw can be advised for improved chewing dynamics and occlusion—or how the teeth fit together. These operations can range from simple to very complex
